About the Hub
Old walls, new purpose.
For over 160 years this church has been part of Callington's story. Today it is owned and run by The Little Church Callington Community Hub Incorporated, a not-for-profit association of local members — bringing together local heritage, the arts, and wellness under one roof, with every dollar earned going straight back into the building.
Our history
Built in 1864. Still holding the town's stories.
The Little Church was raised in local stone by the families of a young copper-mining town, and it has been gathering people ever since.
Callington grew up around the Bremer mine, and like every young town of its era it built its church early. Raised in 1864 as St Peter's Lutheran Church, Callington, it's a small, honest building of hand-cut stone that has outlasted the mine, the railway boom, and a century and a half of South Australian summers.
In recent years the congregation and community worked together to bring the building's title back into local hands, so that decisions about its future would be made here in Callington. A working committee now cares for the church, with plans to form an incorporated community association to hold it for generations to come.
Built in local stone on Murray Street as St Peter's Lutheran Church, Callington, serving the town's mining families.
Generations of services, weddings, funerals and community gatherings pass through its doors.
The community brings the building's title back into local hands and a working committee forms to care for it, opening a new chapter as a community hub — with an incorporated association on the way.
